Cold front 12 to cause frosts in Mexico this week

Cold Front 12 has entered Mexico, bringing sub-zero temperatures and frosts to more than half the country this week. The Meteorological Service of Conagua warns of risks from intense rains in the southeast and strong winds. Minimums of up to -5 degrees are expected in high areas of several states.

Cold Front 12, which recently entered the country, will affect Mexico with low temperatures and rains throughout the week. According to the Meteorological Service of the National Water Commission (Conagua), more than half of the national territory could experience frosts, focusing on risks for states near the Gulf of Mexico coasts, where the cold air mass and humidity will intensify precipitation.

Minimum temperatures of -5 to 0 degrees are forecast during the early morning in mountainous areas of Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Estado de México, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Puebla, and Veracruz. Meanwhile, temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees are expected in highlands of Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Ciudad de México, Morelos, and Oaxaca. Tuesday, November 4, will be one of the coldest days, with alerts in multiple states. Wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are also forecast, prompting Conagua to urge precautions.

Regarding rains, stemming from a northerly event and coastal humidity, intense downpours are expected in the southeast. Strong rains with punctual very strong (50 to 75 millimeters) in Yucatán and Quintana Roo; showers with punctual strong rains (25 to 50 millimeters) in Chiapas, Tabasco, and Campeche; intervals of showers (5 to 25 millimeters) in Puebla, Veracruz (Sotavento, Las Montañas, Papaloapan, Los Tuxtlas, and Olmeca regions) and Oaxaca; and isolated rains (0.1 to 5 millimeters) in Guerrero, Puebla (Valle Serdán region), and Veracruz (Nautla and Capital regions). Wednesday, November 5, will see the heaviest precipitation, particularly near Veracruz and Tabasco.
