Flor María Vargas Buitrago, a pioneer of radio, theater and television in Colombia, died on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Bogotá after a decline in her health over several months.
Vargas began her career in commercial radio at the age of 14. She later joined Radio Nacional de Colombia, where she took part in works such as El mercader de Venecia, Medea and tragedies by Federico García Lorca, as well as the radionovela Kalimán.
On television she appeared in more than 24 national productions until her retirement in the mid-2010s. Her roles included those in Aquí no hay quien viva, Los Victorinos, El Capo, En los tacones de Eva, N.N. and Laura, la santa colombiana.
The acting community bid her farewell through the Sociedad Colombiana de Gestión, which remembered her as a pioneer and a figure of great human quality who influenced several generations. In her final months she faced economic difficulties and limited access to medical treatments, a situation she had publicly shared.
