CONICET Researcher Analyzes Early Universe Galaxy with James Webb Telescope

An international research project with CONICET participation observed the formation of massive early universe galaxies in unprecedented detail using the James Webb Telescope.

The study focused on the object TGSS J1530+1049, whose light began traveling when the universe was less than 2 billion years old, just 10 percent of its current age. Researcher María Victoria Reynaldi from the Instituto de Astrofísica de La Plata stated that the results put theories on early universe galaxy formation to the test.

The James Webb Telescope enabled resolution of complex structures. International research revealed the simultaneous presence of multiple massive galaxies interacting in a small region, indicating an early merger phase.

Reynaldi explained that one group of galaxies shows typical interstellar medium properties dominated by gas radiation, while another includes six galaxies dominated by the light of their stars. Radio galaxies serve as natural laboratories to study supermassive black hole growth and the first giant galaxies.
