A couple in Ghaziabad's Raj Nagar Extension allegedly killed their landlady when she visited to collect rent. Police said Deepshikha Sharma was first struck on the head with a pressure cooker and then strangled with a dupatta. Her body was hidden in a red bag inside their flat.
Ghaziabad police arrested a couple on Thursday in connection with a murder that occurred on Wednesday night. The victim, Deepshikha Sharma (48), was a teacher who, along with her husband Umesh Sharma, owned two flats in the Aura Chimera residential complex. They lived in one and rented out the other.
The tenants, Ajay Gupta and Akriti Gupta, had not paid rent for about four months. On Wednesday, when Umesh was not at home, Deepshikha went to the flat to collect the overdue rent. She did not return for hours, prompting her domestic help, Meena, to search for her.
The couple told Meena that Deepshikha had not visited them. Suspicious, Meena checked CCTV footage around the flat, which showed Deepshikha entering but not exiting. She then alerted the police.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Upasna Pandey said, “The Nandgram police station received information that a murder had occurred in Aura Chimera residential complex at Rajnagar Extension. When a police team reached the complex, they found Deepshikha’s body hidden in a red bag.” The couple was arrested on Thursday. The incident highlights tensions between tenants and landlords over unpaid rent.
