Dua Lipa pays tribute to Selena at tour finale in Mexico City

Dua Lipa concluded her Radical Optimism World Tour with a heartfelt cover of Selena's 'Amor Prohibido' during her final show at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City on December 5, 2025. The event capped a nine-month global trek featuring surprise regional covers at each stop.

Tour Overview

Dua Lipa's Radical Optimism World Tour, which began in Singapore in November 2024 and spanned 92 shows across continents, ended on December 5, 2025, in Mexico City. The tour included surprise covers of local artists in various languages, such as Spanish and Portuguese during the Latin America leg. Earlier stops featured collaborations like Gwen Stefani, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Lionel Richie in the U.S., and Fher Olvera of Maná for 'Oye Mi Amor' during Lipa's second Mexico City show on December 3.

The Selena Tribute

At the sold-out finale, attended by 65,000 fans, Lipa performed 'Amor Prohibido,' a classic by the late Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla. Speaking in Spanish, Lipa explained her choice: “I chose this song because I feel a very special connection with this artist and with her feeling of belonging to two places at the same time. It’s something I deeply identify with, as I feel I am both Albanian and English, just as she was Mexican and American.” Born in 1995, the same year Selena died, Lipa highlighted their shared experiences of dual nationality, noting her Albanian citizenship obtained in 2022.

Mexico City Highlights

Lipa's three-night run at Estadio GNP Seguros drew 195,000 attendees total. On December 1, she covered 'Bésame Mucho,' prompting a social media nod from Luis Miguel. Fans gifted her a Mexican National Team jersey amid World Cup excitement, and the team responded positively on X. Additional events included a themed taqueria and a Service 95 book session. Lipa thanked the crowd in Spanish: “Thank you so much for welcoming us with open arms and for this energy that I will carry with me until next time.”
