This win gives the Ducks 11 comeback victories, tied for the most in the NHL, and represents their best opening since the 2014-15 campaign (19-6-5, 43 points).
Beckett Sennecke delivered the pivotal moment by scoring a shorthanded goal with 0.1 seconds left in the third period, tying the game and matching Scott Niedermayer's franchise record for the latest game-tying goal (set at 59:59 on Nov. 21, 2008). This feat ties for the latest game-tying shorthanded goal in NHL history and makes Sennecke the fourth player ever—and the first since 2000—to score shorthanded at 19:59 of the third period. As a teenager, he is only the second to achieve this. Sennecke became the first rookie in NHL history to score a game-tying goal in the final second of regulation while shorthanded, and the seventh rookie overall to score that late in a period.
Sennecke, who leads all NHL rookies in goals and points, also recorded an assist in the first period for a two-point night. This extends his streak to three consecutive multi-point games (3-3=6 points), making him the first Ducks teenager to accomplish this and the third such teenager in the NHL over the last five years. Paul Kariya holds the franchise rookie record with six straight multi-point games in 1994. With 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points in 30 games, Sennecke is the fastest Ducks teenager to reach 25 or more points, surpassing Mason McTavish's mark (25 points in 40 games during 2022-23).
In net, Ville Husso made 44 saves on 47 shots and stopped all three Pittsburgh shootout attempts, earning his third straight win (3-0-0 record, 2.24 GAA, .920 SV%). He improves to 5-2-0 on the season.
