The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested a clerical officer at the Uasin Gishu Lands Office on charges of soliciting a bribe. The officer allegedly demanded Ksh100,000 to process a land subdivision. He appeared in court on Monday and denied the charge.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission arrested the officer after a public complaint triggered an investigation. According to the commission's statement, the officer solicited Ksh100,000 and received part of the amount before authorities completed their inquiries. The case file was reviewed and approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The officer was charged under the Bribery Act, 2016, and granted bail of Ksh30,000 cash or Ksh100,000 bond. This arrest forms part of ongoing EACC efforts targeting corruption in public offices across Kenya. Similar actions have included cases involving other government employees in recent months.
