A moderate earthquake hit Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh on the night of June 5, 2026, with tremors reported in Dharamsala, Chamba, and Chandigarh.
The earthquake struck at 10:04 PM on Friday night. Its epicentre was located near Dhar Godoi in Kangra, about 40 km from Dharamsala, at a depth of 5 km. Kangra and Chamba districts fall under Seismic Zone 5. Officials said no loss of life or property has been reported so far. People in Dharamsala and nearby areas ran out of their houses in panic. Chandigarh resident Baldev Chand said the tremors lasted only for a few seconds. Tremors were also felt in Panchkula and parts of Punjab and Haryana.
