The family of the late former Likuyani MP, Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy, is demanding a thorough investigation into his sudden death at Eldoret Hospital. They suspect food poisoning, based on doctors' diagnosis. The 72-year-old lawmaker passed away after a prolonged illness.

Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy, former Lugari MP from 2003 to 2007 and Likuyani MP from 2013 to 2022, died on December 23, 2025, at Eldoret Hospital after battling a prolonged illness. His family, speaking to journalists at their home in Kakamega County, expressed concerns over the circumstances of his death, suspecting food poisoning.

According to his nephew, Kibunguchy fell ill suddenly at home, and attempts to treat him there failed, leading to his hospitalization. “When he came here, we were trying to take care of him at home, but whatever we were trying to prevent was not going away. So that is when we brought him to the hospital,” the nephew said. Doctors diagnosed food poisoning, which alarmed the family and prompted them to retrace events. However, his condition worsened, with doctors reporting multiple complications, including kidney failure, intestinal bleeding, and breathing difficulties.

“We even felt sorry for the doctors. They could come and tell us they are dealing with a failing kidney, intestinal bleeding in the stomach, and breathing issues,” the family added. They question the severity of the poisoning, which they say did not match typical cases, and are calling for an investigation team to probe how it occurred. Kibunguchy had held senior roles in the Ministry of Health, including Assistant Director of Medical Services.

Current Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera remembered him as a leader of quiet determination, humility, and integrity. “He believed deeply that knowledge was the greatest equaliser, and he translated this belief into action by initiating and supporting the establishment of several schools from the ground up,” Nabwera stated. This death comes two weeks after his predecessor Cyrus Jirongo's fatal road accident on December 13.
