In a hard-fought SHL encounter at Färjestad's home rink on Thursday evening, Leksand took the lead in the second period through Matt Caito's impressive goal. Caito fintade his way to create space and fired past goaltender Emil Larmi, with Lukas Vejdemo providing a perfect screen. "We go to the net, try to create chaos. I took the loose puck and Vejdemo did a perfect screen for me," Caito told TV4.
Färjestad responded in the third period, with Luke Philip equalizing before Vejdemo restored Leksand's advantage. However, Axel Bergqvist tied the game for the hosts, forcing overtime and eventually a shootout, where Färjestad prevailed to claim the two points. Leksand earned one point for the effort, but the loss halted their recent momentum, as Örebro's win over Malmö widened the gap to safety.
Leksand coach Johan Hedberg reflected on the game: "We play up in the second and even it out. Third is a bit more towards them. But we get a lot of sharp chances on the rush when they lose it. Had someone said before that we would take a point, I would have taken it." TV4 expert Sanny Lindström commended Leksand's team spirit: "Positive tendencies in the play they've shown lately." Hedberg agreed, noting the team's sacrifice: "Everyone competes for each other... We block shots, we do the backchecks. We do all the little things needed to win a hockey game."
Färjestad's David Tomasek was equally impressed: "They played fantastically. They were very tight in both their own zone and middle zone." Caito, drawing inspiration from the Olympics, added: "I watched the OS, fun to try to learn something from them. See how they approach the ice. The last matches I've tried to do it better."
With six rounds left, Lindström expressed doubt about Leksand avoiding the relegation playoffs given their position.
