The Federal Government has called on communities in Ogun and Ondo states to fully back the proposed Dangote Industrial City and Deep Seaport project. Officials described the initiative as a major opportunity for economic growth during a recent environmental assessment visit.
The call came during a three-day Environmental and Social Impact Assessment tour on July 6, 2026, covering Ode-Omi Waterside Community in Ogun State and Araromi Community in Ondo State. Mrs. Rofikat Adebukunola Odetoro, representing the Minister of Environment, urged traditional rulers and leaders to include women and children in consultations. She stated that the project offers employment and corporate social responsibility benefits.
Capt. Jamil Abubakar of Dangote Industries Limited assured communities of transparency and ongoing engagement. He noted that Aliko Dangote directed a needs assessment for host areas and interventions at any project stage. Dr. Adeyemi Adun explained that the assessment establishes baselines for air, water, soil, and socio-economic conditions.
Local officials and the Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, expressed support. Stakeholders signed communiques after discussions, and consultants began sample surveys at the sites.
