Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 teases key locations and features

Producer Naoki Hamaguchi has shared details on the third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, confirming several locations from the original game. The update includes teases for Wutai, Rocket Town, and the Highwind airship. Development is ongoing, with a reveal expected later this year.

Naoki Hamaguchi, producer of the Final Fantasy series, provided an update on the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy during an interview with Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. While the game will have a distinct title separate from Remake and Rebirth, it is commonly referred to as Part 3 by fans pending an official announcement.

Hamaguchi confirmed that several locations from the second half of the original 1997 Final Fantasy VII will feature in the upcoming title. Rocket Town, absent from Rebirth, will appear. Wutai is set to be one of the main locations, with character Yuffie playing a prominent role as she addresses issues related to her homeland. Hamaguchi noted, "if Wutai’s not featured, I think the fans are going to yell at me."

The Highwind, the airship that enables world map travel in the original game's third act, will also be included and form a significant portion of Part 3. Additionally, the game is expected to open in the Icicle Inn and Great Glacier areas, mirroring their placement at the end of the original's second act.

Regarding gameplay elements, Hamaguchi indicated changes to Chocobo-related features, stating that while he could not confirm or deny breeding mechanics, the third installment will introduce a variation on Chocobos compared to Rebirth. Development has been underway since the release of Rebirth in 2024, and Hamaguchi expressed hope that the game "is not going to be too far in the future," with a reveal anticipated later in 2024.
