João Fonseca will rise to 25th in the ATP ranking on Monday and become South America's number one. Luis Augusto Queiroz Miguel, known as Guto, will contest the Roland Garros junior final against American Michael Antonius.
Fonseca stopped in the quarterfinals in Paris after defeating Novak Djokovic. His campaign secured five ranking spots, with Italian Matteo Arnaldi's withdrawal from the semifinal due to a virus confirming the position. Guto, 17, defeated Brazilian semifinalist Leonardo Storck 6/1, 3/6 and 6/2. He mathematically secured the ITF junior ranking lead, to be made official on Monday. The Goiás native faces Antonius, the 13th seed, on Court Simonne-Mathieu from noon Saturday in Paris. No Brazilian has won the junior singles title at Roland Garros so far. Coach Santos Dumont Guimarães highlighted Guto's physical and technical development. The player has trained in Brasília since age 14.
