Former Hong Kong lawmaker Regina Ip to join ComplexCon fan meeting

Veteran politician Regina Ip, now an online sensation, will join global stars including Blackpink's Jennie, American rapper Yeat, and Korean R&B singer Crush at the Hong Kong edition of ComplexCon later this month. The 75-year-old, convenor of the government's Executive Council, is set for a fan meeting at the two-day pop culture festival. Participants can receive an exclusive signed photo card and join a hi-bye session.

Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, a 75-year-old veteran politician and convenor of Hong Kong's Executive Council, has gained fame for her engaging online presence, including festive outfit posts and cultural impact, making her an icon beyond her official duties. The Hong Kong edition of ComplexCon, a global pop culture festival, announced her fan meeting via social media on Thursday. The two-day event is scheduled for later this month at AsiaWorld-Expo.

Organisers wrote on their ComplexChinese social media account: “Known for her highly engaging online presence – from her festive outfit posts to cultural impact – Regina has become a true icon in Hong Kong, in addition to all her high-level official duties as a public figure.” They added: “Participants will also have the chance to receive an exclusive, never-before-seen photo card signed by Regina and enjoy the hi-bye session after the fan meeting. Are you ready to experience the warm, charismatic energy of our favourite Regina?”

Ip served in the Legislative Council for 17 years before stepping down ahead of last year’s election. She also held the position of secretary for security from 1998 to 2003. Previously known for policy debates, she now engages in pop culture, highlighting her versatility. ComplexCon features K-pop, rap, and local figures, with guests including Jennie from Blackpink, Yeat, and Crush.
