Former Constitutional Court president Iván Aróstica confronted armed intruders at his San Miguel home on Thursday, May 21. A 14-year-old died in the shootout and the former minister and his son were wounded.
Aróstica said the intruders broke down the door of his El Llano home around 21.00. He and his son fired back with firearms kept in the residence. “It was them or my people,” the lawyer told reporters.
A 14-year-old died in the exchange. Two other teenagers aged 14 and 15 were wounded. Six people were detained in total, including two adults who waited outside in vehicles.
Aróstica suffered a gunshot to his right forearm and a blow to the head. His son was hospitalized at Clínica de la Universidad Católica with an abdominal wound and is not in life-threatening condition. Security Minister Martín Arrau contacted the victim overnight to express support.
