Funeral service held for ambassador Qonjit Sirgeorgis

The funeral service for veteran ambassador Qonjit Sirgeorgis was held at Entoto Kidane Mihret Betekrstiyan in Addis Ababa. President Taye Atske Sillasie and former President Sahle-Work Zewde attended along with other ambassadors and senior officials. Sirgeorgis served for decades in Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Miyazya 10, 2018 EC (Fana Media calendar), the funeral service for Ambassador Qonjit Sirgeorgis took place at Entoto Kidane Mihret Betekrstiyan in Addis Ababa.

President Taye Atske Sillasie, former President Sahle-Work Zewde, fellow ambassadors, and senior government officials attended the ceremony. Born in 1932 EC in Harer town, Sirgeorgis passed away on Megabit 29, 2018 EC while receiving medical treatment.

She began her career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the 1950s, rising from desk officer to senior positions. Sirgeorgis served as full ambassador in Ethiopia's missions in Ottawa, Cairo, Tel Aviv, and Vienna. She also acted as representative for the African Union and the African Economic Commission, and from Sene 2009 to Meskerem 2011 EC, led IGAD peace talks for South Sudan as special envoy.
