Days before Season 1's release, Jon Ebeling, a former friend and co-star from Alvarez's 2015 webseries 'The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo,' accused Alvarez of sexual assault via Instagram and a December 2024 New York Magazine article. Ebeling also alleged that Koenig, his ex-girlfriend and a writer/star on the show, enabled the dynamic. FX reviewed the claims before launch and proceeded with renewal less than two months later. A network spokesperson said: “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns.
