FX has greenlit an untitled spinoff from the acclaimed series 'Snowfall,' starring original cast members Gail Bean and Isaiah John as Wanda and Leon Simmons. The show, set in 1990s Los Angeles, will premiere next year on FX and Hulu. It explores the rise of West Coast rap amid gang wars and industry exploitation.
Series Order and Premiere
FX has officially ordered the untitled 'Snowfall' spinoff to series, following a pilot greenlight in March 2025. Development began in 2023 after the original 'Snowfall' concluded its six-season run. The new series is slated to premiere in 2026 on FX and stream on Hulu.
Plot and Setting
Written by Malcolm Spellman, the spinoff is set in 1990s Los Angeles shortly after the events of the original series. It centers on a recovering addict aiming to bring West Coast rap to the mainstream, set against a backdrop of erupting gang wars and record labels seeking to profit from hip-hop culture.
Cast
Gail Bean reprises her role as Wanda Simmons, while Isaiah John returns as Leon Simmons. The ensemble also includes Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III.
Production Team
Malcolm Spellman serves as writer and executive producer. He is joined by executive producers Dave Andron (co-creator of 'Snowfall'), Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson. The series is produced by FX Productions.
