Golden Globes cuts original score award from CBS telecast

The Golden Globes will present its Best Original Score award at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday but exclude it from the CBS broadcast due to time constraints. The winner will be announced online with a digital clip shared across platforms. Nominees include composers for films like F1: The Movie and Sinners.

The 2026 Golden Globes ceremony, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, faces scheduling pressures that have led to the omission of the Best Original Score award from the televised portion. According to reports, the award will still be given during the event at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, but viewers at home will not see the presentation.

This decision comes as the awards show, now under the ownership of Penske Media Eldridge—a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge Industries since June 2023—has expanded its categories. Produced by Dick Clark Productions, the Globes added awards for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television in 2024, and introduced a Best Podcast Award this year. The competing podcasts include Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Smartless, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and Up First. These changes have brought the total number of categories to 28.

The nominees for Best Original Score are Hans Zimmer for Apple’s F1: The Movie, Alexandre Desplat for Netflix’s Frankenstein, Max Richter for Focus Features’ Hamnet, Johnny Greenwood for Warner Bros’ One Battle After Another, Ludwig Göransson for Warner Bros’ Sinners, and Kangding Ray for Neon’s Sirāt. Organizers notified the nominees of the change on the afternoon of January 9, 2026. While the live presentation is cut, the winner’s name will be revealed during the broadcast, followed by an online announcement and a video clip distributed on platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, and the Golden Globes website.

A spokesperson emphasized the category’s importance: “We place tremendous value on this craft and the artists who practice it; their work is essential to the creative excellence we honor at the Golden Globes.” They added, “We greatly appreciate the composers whose work elevates every project we honor and are grateful for the creativity, skill, and impact this community brings to our industry.” For context, last year’s winners were Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Challengers.
