Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has distributed 72,000 bags of fertiliser and other farm inputs to farmers across the state. The distribution took place under the Zamfara 2026 wet-season fertiliser programme. It was launched on Friday at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau.

The state government received more than 120 trucks of fertilisers and other farm inputs for the programme. Items distributed also included 200,000 litres of herbicides, 100 crop residue crushers, 100 grass choppers, feed milling machines, improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles and 20 mobile phones for agricultural extension agents.

Governor Lawal described agriculture as central to Zamfara’s economy. He said the state had vast fertile land and hardworking farmers with a long history of agricultural activities. The intervention aims to revitalise agriculture, strengthen food security and create sustainable livelihoods.

“Farming is the main livelihood and a key to inclusive growth and sustainable development, helping to fight poverty, banditry, and crime,” the governor said. The distribution will cover all 147 political wards across Zamfara’s 14 Local Government Areas. Each ward will receive 340 bags of fertiliser, while each local government area will get 8,000 litres of herbicides.
