The southwest monsoon has weakened and now affects only the western section of Northern Luzon, according to PAGASA. A low-pressure area near Hong Kong is expected to keep it from strengthening.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Chenel Dominguez gave the update during a 5 a.m. advisory on Wednesday.
“The southwest monsoon has weakened slightly and is now confined to the western section of Northern Luzon,” Dominguez said. The system is forecast to weaken further and move offshore.
LPA Josie left the Philippine area of responsibility at 2 a.m. on Wednesday after downgrading to a low-pressure area. Another LPA 1,165 kilometers west northwest of extreme Luzon is unlikely to become a tropical depression.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are still expected over Metro Manila and other parts of the country, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
