The pop duo performed at Warsaw concert hall in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, drawing fans in elaborate DIY costumes themed around a masquerade.
Vocalist Michelle Buzz and drummer Lance Shipp, known as Haute and Freddy, took the stage last night before an audience dressed as jesters, queens and clowns. The pair encouraged attendees, referred to as the royal court, to treat the show as their own fashion display. The L.A.-based act is touring in support of their album Big Disgrace, which came out in March. Their set incorporated a circus motif, with the musicians portraying escaped performers in vintage clown suits and showgirl outfits sourced from Los Angeles vintage shops and custom designs. Fans matched the theme with lace masks and corsets. During the song Scantily Clad, those with standout looks were invited onstage. The duo, who previously wrote for Britney Spears and Katy Perry, said the tour represents their move toward independent creative work. Upcoming dates include Lollapalooza in Chicago next month and a European leg in the fall.
