Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, revealed the Season 2 renewal for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms during a Thursday presentation to press in New York City. The second season is scheduled to debut in 2027, building anticipation for the show's lighter tone compared to predecessors like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

Series Background

Adapted from George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, the series is set approximately 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows the unlikely duo of the towering hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk, played by Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters), and his squire, the young Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell (Emmerdale). The official logline states: "Great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."

Showrunner Ira Parker emphasized the series' fresh approach in a recent TVLine interview at New York Comic Con. "What excites and scares me is that I don't give people what they've seen before [in the other series], which is always extremely important," Parker said. "If you're going to do a new entry, you don't want it to be a big cash grab because of the Westeros people love. We want it to feel like it belongs, and that it's needed."

In the same presentation, HBO confirmed the renewal of House of the Dragon for a fourth season, with Season 3 set to return in summer 2026 and Season 4 expected in 2028. This underscores HBO's continued investment in the Game of Thrones universe.
