Authorities in Ibiza and Formentera have suspended classes on Thursday, October 9, due to an orange alert for rain and storms issued by Aemet. This measure addresses the islands' vulnerability following last week's floods. Up to 100 liters per square meter are expected in a few hours.

The Technical Advisory Committee, in its second meeting of the Meteobal Plan, decided to suspend classes in Ibiza and Formentera to assess weather evolution and coordinate operational services. According to the Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior, this action addresses the heightened vulnerability in the Pitiusas following last week's rains and floods.

Emergencies Director General Pablo Gárriz stated after the meeting that the orange alert remains in effect from 06:00 to 18:00. 'We are trying to prevent displacements and gatherings as a precautionary measure during hours when peaks of 60, 70, or even 100 liters of water accumulation may occur,' he explained.

Recommendations include avoiding riverbeds, staying informed via official 112 channels, exercising caution, and avoiding unnecessary travel. Aemet forecasts accumulations of around 100 liters per square meter in three or four hours, with peak intensities up to 40 liters per hour, but stresses the persistence of the rains.

The heaviest precipitation is expected to start from 07:00 and continue until approximately 18:00. This episode will form part of the Dana Alice, affecting the eastern peninsula and Balearics until Sunday. Authorities are conducting thorough monitoring, implementing stricter measures due to Ibiza's recovery phase.

Additionally, the Govern has warned of a false circulated statement claiming a red alert; the alert is orange. Citizens are urged to follow only official channels, such as the Govern's social media, and call 112 in emergencies.
