A high-level Indian delegation paid tribute to Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the funeral ceremony in Tehran on July 3, 2026.
Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita represented India at the ceremony.
Congress leader Salman Khurshid, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, and religious leaders from India's Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian communities also paid their respects.
Hasnain posted on social media, "Represented India at the funeral ceremony of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran today, along with MoS External Affairs @PmargheritaBJP." Mufti said, "An honour for me to be here in Tehran to express my deepest condolences & solidarity on the martyrdom of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei."
The public funeral ceremonies are scheduled for July 5, 6 and 7 in Tehran and Qom. He will be buried on July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad.
