Dutch-Indonesian midfielder Ivar Jenner has decided not to extend his contract with FC Utrecht, ending in June 2026. This sparks speculation of a move to Persija Jakarta. Timnas U-22 coach Indra Sjafri has voiced the need for Jenner in the upcoming SEA Games 2025.
Ivar Jenner's career has entered a critical phase after confirming he will not extend his contract with FC Utrecht. His deal ends in June 2026, and his playing time at Jong FC Utrecht has dropped sharply this season. Out of 13 matches, he started only four, unlike last season when he was a key player for the reserves.
This situation makes a return to Indonesia more realistic, particularly with interest from Persija Jakarta. The Macan Kemayoran club has long monitored Jenner and is open to signing him if it fits coach Mauricio Souza's needs and the budget. "Coming back, for squad strengthening, (the decision) is not mine if the coach needs (Ivar), why not. We're always open as long as it's on track with the financial budget," said Prapanca.
Jenner himself stated, "My situation at the club is a bit different. This is my last season at the club. I'm still with the second team. So I'm not extending the contract," after a friendly against Mali U-22 at Pakansari. If he joins, he could become Persija's sixth diaspora player, following Thom Haye, Eliano Reijnders, Rafael Struick, Jordi Amat, and Jens Raven.
Meanwhile, Persija sits comfortably in the upper table of the BRI Super League 2025/2026 with 26 points and will host PSIM Yogyakarta in week 14. At the national team level, Indra Sjafri emphasized Jenner's importance based on his two strong showings against Mali U-22. "Clearly two different game plans, Ivar handled them well. I think we need him," said Indra, referring to the SEA Games 2025 next month.
