Jackson Koivun turns pro after historic amateur career

Jackson Koivun announced Friday that he will turn professional after next week's U.S. Open. The 21-year-old Auburn University golfer ends a standout amateur career that included multiple titles and top rankings.

Koivun, the top-rated amateur in the modern era according to DataGolf, will compete one final time as an amateur at the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock. He leaves Auburn before his senior season after securing three SEC individual titles and two NCAA Team Championships, the most recent coming at the NCAA Championships in San Diego.

The golfer earned PGA Tour membership through the PGA Tour University Accelerated program. He recorded multiple top-15 finishes in prior PGA Tour appearances as an amateur.

Koivun also signed a clothing sponsorship deal with Malbon. His first professional start is scheduled at the John Deere Classic over July 4th weekend.
