Jakarta prepares for tidal flooding on November 5-10

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared various measures to face tidal flooding expected from November 5-10, 2025. The strategy includes personnel readiness, pump equipment, and weather modification operations. The main focus is on vulnerable coastal areas in northern Jakarta.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has implemented a comprehensive strategy to anticipate tidal flooding, emphasizing prevention, mitigation, and rapid response. According to Chico Hakim, Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communications, the Water Resources Agency (Dinas SDA) has fully deployed the Blue Force, the emergency response team.

“For personnel and equipment readiness, Dinas SDA has fully deployed the Blue Force (emergency response team)," Chico told the press in Jakarta on Thursday.

Readiness is focused on seven main vulnerable areas: Tanjungan, Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Pasar Ikan, Ancol Marina and Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Tanjung Priok, Kali Baru, and Marunda. A total of 560 permanent pumps are on standby in 11 coastal sub-districts such as Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, and Ancol, with a total capacity of 1.2 million liters per minute. Additionally, 50 portable pumps are deployed for emergency drainage, with 95 percent of pumps in prime condition after maintenance in October 2025.

Main drainage channels along the coast have been dredged for 15 kilometers since October 22, 2025, producing 1,500 sacks of mud. However, drainage in Marunda and Kali Baru remains vulnerable to clogging due to sedimentation, so it is routinely monitored using drones. Overall, drainage effectiveness reaches 85 percent, with targets for improvement through closed polder systems.

To reduce the potential for extreme rain, the Provincial Government is conducting Weather Modification Operations (OMC) from November 5-10, 2025, in collaboration with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). “This aims to reduce rainfall intensity in northern Jakarta," Chico added.
