Jaylen Brown addressed his trade from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers during a nearly hour-long Twitch stream on Thursday night. He expressed frustration over the process and shared reactions to joining his former rivals.
Brown, who spent 10 seasons with the Celtics, began the stream by saying the organization had moved on from him. He read a statement thanking the city and fans but not the team itself.
The 2024 NBA Finals MVP said he sensed a shift during trade talks this summer. "There was definitely a message being sent, and that message was received," Brown stated. He added that he was not thrilled with the respect shown, particularly in conversations facilitated by president Brad Stevens.
Brown criticized the use of anonymous sources throughout the process and joked about reversing years of rivalry programming against Philadelphia. He called new teammates Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe live on the stream, with Maxey promising to join future broadcasts.
Brown also noted that his key card was rejected when he tried to enter the Celtics facility after the trade news broke. He described the just-completed season as his favorite despite the first-round playoff exit.
