Jharkhand Police raided an under-construction building in Rargaon village near Ranchi, arresting 166 people including 159 exam aspirants. The alleged solver gang charged up to Rs 10 lakh per candidate. Officials confirmed no paper leak took place.
About 75 km from Ranchi along the Jamshedpur road, an isolated under-construction three-storey building in Rargaon village, meant for a private nursing college, became the target of a Jharkhand Police raid late Saturday night by Tamar police station. Officers found over 150 young people, including seven girls, seated in rows on the first floor. Aspirants had been gathered since Saturday morning and given what the accused claimed were leaked JECCE question papers to memorise, police said.
In the operation, 164 people were arrested on site—159 candidates and five alleged gang members—with two more detained later. Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan said owner Gaurav Singh is absconding. Kingpin Atul Vats, from Bihar's Jehanabad, has links to prior cases including the 2024 NEET leak, according to police. Items seized included vehicles, mobiles, printed materials, and torn admit cards.
Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) and police maintained the Sunday JECCE exam proceeded without leak, as gang materials did not match the paper. JSSC debarred all 159 candidates. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo questioned the police's swift clearance and called for CBI-ED probe into the Rs 20-23 crore racket.
Aspirants' counsel Amlan Palit called clients victims lacking proof of payments. Village head Durga Oraon said locals were unaware. Workers Ghayasuddin and Aslam noted vehicles ferrying groups and unusual activity.
