Jorge Hodelín sets world junior long jump record

Cuban athlete Jorge Hodelín set a new world junior record in the long jump with a mark of 8.46 meters in France.

Hodelín, aged 19 and from Sancti Spíritus, achieved the mark on Saturday at the Envol Trophée Meeting. He surpassed his personal best of 8.34 meters and the previous record of 8.38 meters held by Italy's Mattia Furlani.

The jump placed him third among the season's top marks. It also ranks as the fourth-best mark ever recorded in Cuba.

Other Cuban athletes performed well in Europe that weekend. Daily Cooper won the 800 meters at the Spanish Club Championship with a time of 1:59.15.
