Jorge Jesus is expected to take over as Portugal coach following Roberto Martinez's departure after the team's World Cup exit. Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated he will not rush a decision on his international future.
Widespread reports in Portugal confirmed on Tuesday that Jesus will succeed Martinez, who resigned after Portugal lost to Spain in the World Cup.
Martinez stepped down once his contract expired following the defeat in Dallas. He had aimed to secure a first major trophy for Portugal since Euro 2016.
Ronaldo, who captained the side, told reporters he leaves with a clear conscience after 233 appearances. He described the loss as his final World Cup but said he needs time with family before deciding on retirement from international duty.
Martinez praised Ronaldo as an exemplary captain and role model during his tenure.
