Julio César Chávez Jr. returned to the ring with a decisive win over Jhon Caicedo. The 40-year-old Mexican weighed in at 89 kg, while the 21-year-old Colombian was at 84 kg, both under the 90.7 kg limit.
The first round featured mutual study, with Chávez Jr. displaying greater reach. In the second, he ramped up pressure with body and head shots, wearing down Caicedo's resistance. The knockout came in the third via a left hook to the jaw that floored the Colombian; he failed to beat the count.
This marks Chávez Jr.'s second win in 2026, following a fourth-round technical knockout of Ángel Julián in San Luis Potosí. He had previously dealt with addiction issues, a loss to Jake Paul in June 2025, and charges over alleged cartel ties, from which he was released.
Caicedo, from Cali, suffered his second loss in 13 fights (5 by knockout). His prior defeat was to Avni Yıldırım in Istanbul in June 2025. Before the bout, Caicedo said he was happy to fight in Mexico and saw it as a big opportunity, while Chávez Jr. promised a great show.
