Kalshi threatens Netflix with defamation suit over documentary

Kalshi has sent Netflix a cease-and-desist letter threatening a defamation lawsuit over a trailer for the documentary The Prediction Games. The prediction market firm claims the footage falsely suggests it is violating a Nevada court order. The documentary is scheduled to premiere Sunday on the streaming service.

Kalshi’s lawyers objected to scenes showing traders celebrating earnings from the recent World Cup final while in Las Vegas. The letter states the trailer contains misleading statements about trades made in violation of the court order.

Netflix responded that the featured trade on Spain was placed in May 2025, before the order took effect. A Netflix spokesperson told CNN the event was filmed last weekend and the trader provided a screenshot of the earlier bet.

Kalshi further alleged the screenshot was fabricated because it used the term bet slip, which does not appear on its platform. The company’s CEO Tarek Mansour appears in the documentary.

Kalshi is regulated as commodity trading rather than gambling, though multiple states have pursued lawsuits to apply gaming laws to its operations.
