Kristen Stewart's directorial debut releases first trailer

Kristen Stewart's first feature as a director, 'The Chronology of Water,' has unveiled its official trailer. The film, adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir, stars Imogen Poots as a swimmer confronting trauma and addiction. It premieres in theaters this December following a Cannes debut.

Film Overview

'The Chronology of Water' follows a young competitive swimmer who grapples with childhood trauma and addiction, ultimately finding solace through writing. Kristen Stewart adapted the story from Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir of the same name. The film marks Stewart's directorial debut after eight years of development.

Cast and Production

Imogen Poots leads the cast as Yuknavitch, joined by Jim Belushi, Thora Birch, Charlie Carrick, Susannah Flood, Kim Gordon, and Tom Sturridge. Producers include Charles Gillibert of CG Cinema International, Yulia Zayceva, Max Poklov, and Svetlana Punte of Forma Pro Films, Michael Pruss and Rebecca Feuer of Scott Free, as well as Stewart, Maggie McLean, and Dylan Meyer of Nevermind Pictures. Additional production credits go to Andy Mingo in association with Scott Aharoni, Alihan Yalcindag, and Sinan Eczacibasi for Curious Gremlin, among others.

Release Details

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Distributor The Forge has acquired North American rights and plans a limited theatrical release in December, followed by a wider rollout in January. Stewart expressed gratitude for the theatrical push: "Films like ours should be birthed onto the screen, and I am grateful we found a team as committed to supporting independent filmmakers as they are."

The trailer highlights the film's introspective tone and Poots' central performance, setting the stage for its awards-season potential.
