Las Vegas police unveil Cybertruck at brunch block party

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department unveiled its new Cybertruck during a community brunch block party in Downtown Summerlin. The event highlighted first responders and public safety vehicles while fostering community engagement. Hosted by La Neta Cocina y Lounge, it drew families for activities and demonstrations.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, La Neta Cocina y Lounge organized a Brunch Block Party at 11 a.m. in Downtown Summerlin, Las Vegas, featuring the unveiling of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's (LVMPD) Cybertruck. The gathering allowed families to meet first responders, explore public safety vehicles including fire engines, rescue trucks, and the Cybertruck, and participate in various activities.

The LVMPD's K9 unit provided demonstrations, while guests enjoyed brunch dishes on La Neta's patio amid live music, children's face painting, balloon art, and an appearance by the Las Vegas Aviators mascot. Additional highlights included a Vegas Golden Knights-themed car display and a Miracle Flights activation with their Dream Van. La Neta offered $10 kids' brunch specials and bottomless mimosas and margaritas for adults, emphasizing a community-focused celebration for all ages that spotlighted local first responders.

This unveiling ties into LVMPD's rollout of the nation's largest Tesla Cybertruck fleet, comprising 10 vehicles for patrol and community engagement, plus an additional SWAT Cybertruck. Funded by a donation from Ben and Felicia Horowitz and outfitting companies, each 7,000-pound vehicle is customized with police specifications for equipment and communications. Officers are undergoing training on handling, acceleration, and the center touchscreen, with the stainless steel design providing tactical protection, such as in barricade scenarios.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill endorsed the fleet for boosting operational capacity, engagement, and recruitment. Metro's Robert Wicks noted, “Having officers out in the community actually interacting with the community is always what we want anyway as a police department.” The trucks will charge at public stations to enhance resident interactions and are set to deploy on Las Vegas streets this week. During test drives, they have attracted public attention, including thumbs up from onlookers. Retired officer Darryl Walker, who owns a Cybertruck, praised it: “It's gonna come in handy because you've got your equipment, you've got the range, you can put your stuff in there.” Wicks added on tactical use, “If we are on something like a barricade... this will be something that can give us more cover than a standard patrol vehicle.” Walker concluded, “I wish I had one before I retired. This is perfect.”
