Lula adopts Pix protection as electoral banner

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva displayed a sign reading 'the Pix is ours' during a campaign event on Tuesday. The move signals the PT's strategy to turn defense of the instant payment system into a central theme for the 2026 elections.

Lula's campaign seeks to link Pix protection to the defense of electronic ballots in 2022. The slogan emerged after criticism from the Trump administration of the system, used as justification for 25% tariffs on Brazilian products.

Eden Valadares, PT communications secretary, said Pix is a national consensus. He criticized the alliance between Bolsonaro supporters and Trump against what he called a successful national product.

Pix was created in November 2020 by Jair Bolsonaro's government. Social media monitoring recorded 15 million interactions by Tuesday afternoon, with 78% negative sentiment toward Trump and the Bolsonaro family.
