Magistrate to rule on Fadiel Adams bail bid Friday

National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams awaits a magistrate’s ruling on his bail application after a hearing at Pinetown Magistrates’ Court. The decision is due on Friday 15 May 2026 in the case alleging interference in the 2017 murder investigation of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa.

Adams was arrested on 5 May 2026 by the Political Killings Task Team at the Parliamentary Village. He faces charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice over alleged prison visits and contacts with witnesses in the Magaqa probe.

At the bail hearing on 13 May prosecutors argued Adams posed a risk to the administration of justice, citing prison visits in late 2024 and early 2025 and calls to a witness in early May. Defence advocate Yuri Gangai presented Adams’ affidavit denying misconduct and stating he acted within his parliamentary oversight role.

Magistrate Wendalyn Robinson is expected to deliver her ruling on 15 May. Adams maintains he is not a flight risk and will plead not guilty to all counts.
