Man faces murder charges in Michigan drunk driving deaths

A 27-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly crashing his pickup truck into a family of four on a Michigan interstate while driving drunk.

Charles Dean Pace faces four counts of second-degree murder and four counts of operating while intoxicated causing death in the deaths of Zakeria Sharon Dodson, 23, Tieree Powell, 24, and their children Nalani Powell, 3, and Karter Powell, 2.

The crash occurred on Wednesday on Interstate 75 in Springfield Township when the family’s disabled Chrysler 300 was stopped on the shoulder. Pace was driving a Ford F-250 southbound at over 90 mph and weaving through traffic, authorities said.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said Pace had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. She described the deaths as resulting from extreme indifference to human life.

Pace was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
