Mercedes appoints Bradley Lord as deputy F1 team principal

Mercedes has named Bradley Lord as its deputy Formula 1 team principal to support Toto Wolff. The appointment formalizes responsibilities that have grown organically during Lord's 13-year tenure with the team. Wolff stated that his own responsibilities will not change.

Mercedes announced a reshuffle in its Formula 1 team's managerial structure, appointing Bradley Lord as deputy team principal under Toto Wolff. Lord, who joined the Brackley-based squad in 2013 as communications manager, has progressed through roles including head of F1 communications in 2014, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport communications director in 2017, strategic communications director in 2021, chief communications officer, and most recently team representative in 2024. The team described him as having been 'instrumental in shaping the team’s culture, communications, and wider strategic cohesion.' This step fills the gap left by Jerome d'Ambrosio's departure from his driver development director role earlier in 2024. Lord is a familiar face to fans from Sky Sports UK pitwall interviews and garage shots during key races, such as the 2021 title battle. His F1 journey began 25 years ago as a press office intern at Benetton in 2001, followed by senior press officer at Renault in 2006 for two years, features editor at F1 Racing magazine in 2008, head of communications at Renault in 2010, and communications manager at Daimler AG in 2011 overseeing Mercedes motorsport operations from Stuttgart. Wolff explained the decision: 'With the growth of our team and F1, the scope of our operations and associated responsibilities at a senior level has grown significantly. While my role and overall responsibilities will not change one millimetre, Bradley’s work as deputy team principal will further enhance the capability of our leadership group.' The change takes effect immediately and aims to optimize leadership for the expanding sport.
