Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael has surpassed Oppenheimer to become the highest grossing biopic worldwide with $977.4 million.
The film reached the milestone in its tenth weekend at the global box office. It earned $9.2 million over the latest weekend, bringing its domestic total to $370.2 million and foreign earnings to $607.2 million.
Michael now ranks ahead of Oppenheimer, which finished at $975.8 million. It has also overtaken Bohemian Rhapsody to claim the record for highest grossing musical biopic.
The Antoine Fuqua-directed movie stars Jafar Jackson in the lead role. Producers expect it to reach $1 billion worldwide, which would make it the second film to hit that mark in 2026.
