Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has partnered with a University of Tokyo startup to develop and mass-produce AI-equipped humanoid robots, targeting 1,000 units per month by the end of 2027.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has partnered with Highlanders Inc. to leverage its manufacturing expertise for the robots. The company plans to deploy them on an engine production line at its Kyoto factory to collect data for further development.
CEO Takao Kato told a Tokyo press conference that the firm is the leadoff hitter in Japan for mass-producing humanoid robots. Highlanders CEO Hiroya Masuoka said no Japanese company competes globally in physical AI and expressed a desire to take a step forward.
The companies source parts domestically and expect the robots to help address labor shortages.
