Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced transfers and promotions affecting four regional commissioners and several county commissioners. The changes, effective immediately, aim to improve coordination of national government functions and address security concerns. They come 14 months before the 2027 general elections.
Murkomen issued the statement on Friday, May 15, outlining the moves to strengthen service delivery across Kenya. Rhoda Nyaboke Onyancha moves from the Coast to Nairobi, while Paul Rotich shifts from Eastern to the Coast. Samson Macharia Irungu goes from Western to the Office of the President headquarters, and Flora Nkatha Mworoah returns from Nyanza to headquarters.
Three officers received promotions to regional commissioner roles. Jacob O. Muganda now leads the Eastern region, Onesmus Musyoki Kyatha heads Nyanza, and Allan Machari takes over Western from headquarters. Several others, including Joshua Muriungi Nkanatha in Central and Dr Abdi Mohammed Hassan in Rift Valley, remain in place.
At the county level, 16 commissioners face new assignments. Joseph Kibet Boen moves from Kiambu to Kilifi, and Stephen Kutwa Sangolo shifts from Baringo to Lamu. The ministry said the transfers consider officers' strengths to tackle emerging administrative needs. Changes take effect right away.
