NCTE restores BEd option for CTET 2026 primary and junior exams

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has reinstated the BEd qualification as eligible for both primary and junior level exams in CTET 2026. This change allows candidates holding a BEd degree to apply for teaching positions across India. Registration for the exam is now open on the official website until December 18, 2025.

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for 2026 has seen a significant update in eligibility criteria, as announced by the NCTE. Previously restricted, the BEd qualification is now valid for both Paper I (primary level, classes 1-5) and Paper II (junior level, classes 6-8). This restoration broadens opportunities for BEd graduates aspiring to teach in government and private schools nationwide.

Registration for CTET 2026 opened immediately following the announcement and will remain available on ctet.nic.in until December 18, 2025. Candidates with a BEd degree can now apply without the earlier limitations, enhancing access to teaching roles under the Right to Education Act. The NCTE's decision addresses feedback from educators and aligns with national efforts to standardize teacher qualifications.

No specific exam dates have been detailed in the update, but the focus remains on ensuring qualified teachers for primary and upper primary levels. This policy shift is expected to increase applicant numbers, providing more options for those pursuing careers in India's education sector.
