Former Chile coach Nelson Acosta, 82, was admitted Wednesday night to Clínica Alemana emergency services for a respiratory condition and remains in the intermediate care unit with respiratory support.
Clínica Alemana stated in a release that Acosta “ingresó durante la noche de ayer al Servicio de Urgencia por un cuadro respiratorio”. The facility added that “actualmente se encuentra hospitalizado en la Unidad de Cuidados Intermedios, donde permanece con soporte respiratorio, a la espera de los resultados de estudios y de su respuesta al tratamiento”.
Acosta was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2017 and lives on a plot in San Vicente de Tagua Tagua. In May his daughter Silvana moved him to Santiago for medical care.
Acosta’s children remain in a legal dispute over his care. Iván Zamorano and Marcelo Salas sent recovery messages to the former coach.
