Netflix releases BTS: The Return documentary

Netflix has released BTS: The Return, a feature-length documentary capturing the K-pop group's reunion after mandatory military service and their comeback show. Directed by Bao Nguyen, the film follows the creation of their tenth studio album Arirang and behind-the-scenes of the March 21 concert at Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square. The documentary premiered on March 27, 2026.

BTS, consisting of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, reunited following South Korea's 18-month mandatory military service. The group produced their first full-length album since 2022, Arirang, while living together in a Los Angeles house for two months—the first time all seven had shared a home since 2019. The album title draws from a traditional Korean folk song, as RM explained during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: “I think it’s the song that represents Koreans the most. It includes lots of emotions in it. It could be joy. It could be sorrow, longings, sadness, whatever. Resistance. So we just hope that our new songs could be universal, like the ‘arirang.’” V added about the track “2.0”: it is about “who we are today after our solo journey,” emphasizing their confidence with the line “You know how we do it.” The comeback show at Gwanghwamun Square was livestreamed worldwide on Netflix. BTS: The Return features tracks from Arirang including “Intro,” “For Youth,” “No More Dream,” “Epilogue: Young Forever,” “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2,” “Mic Drop,” “Swim,” “Arirang,” and “Body To Body.” It also includes Phoenix's “Love Like A Sunset, Pt. 2,” throwbacks like “For Youth” and “Epilogue: Young Forever,” and traditional Korean folk songs that inspired the album. Recently, BTS performed “Swim” and “2.0” on Fallon at New York's Guggenheim Museum, with RM seated due to an ankle injury from comeback rehearsals. The group has an 82-date world tour planned from April 9 through March 2027, with live viewing screenings on April 11 in Goyang, South Korea, and April 18 in Tokyo.
