Cody Gakpo scored two penalties as the Netherlands defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 in their final warm-up match before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The match took place in New York on Monday evening. Gakpo converted from the spot in the first half after Crysencio Summerville was fouled. Uzbekistan equalised in the 92nd minute through Igor Sergeev before Gakpo scored again in the 97th minute. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen was forced off with a leg injury in the second half. The Netherlands had already lost right-back Jurrien Timber to injury for the tournament. Ronald Koeman’s side finished with ten men after Guus Til was sent off for handball. Uzbekistan started strongly but could not hold on after the late drama.
