Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Nick Herbig has discussed the leadership expectations that come with his new four-year, $100 million contract extension. He shared his thoughts during an appearance on the “Not Just Football” podcast alongside teammate Cam Heyward.
Herbig said the organization is entrusting him with the keys to the future. He added that he must help propel the team toward a Super Bowl while serving as an asset to the franchise.
The player noted that he is now one of the older guys on the team. He said he has to speak up more at practice, be more vocal and lead by example.
The Steelers defense features several homegrown leaders who have taken on similar roles after receiving big contracts, including Heyward, T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Herbig recorded 7.5 sacks last season and could see an expanded role in 2026.
