One dead in Naivasha matatu crash involving school pupils

One person died and several Ngondi Junior School pupils were injured when a matatu overturned on Maiella Road in Naivasha on Friday evening.

The matatu was carrying learners back from an academic activity at Maiella Main Comprehensive School when it reportedly lost its brakes. The vehicle plunged into a valley along the road, which residents describe as being in poor condition.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 10 learners suffered soft tissue injuries while others sustained fractures. The driver is unconfirmed to have died in the crash.

Emergency responders took the injured students to Naivasha District Hospital Trauma Centre for treatment. Police are expected to investigate the incident.
