Piggy March topped the CCI4*-L dressage on day one of Defender Bramham Horse Trials while Alex Hua Tian led the CCI4*-S.

Piggy March scored 26.4 aboard MCS Maverick to hold first place in the CCI4*-L. The rider said the 2023 winner was rideable despite a cautious walk and noted ongoing work to build their partnership ahead of potential future events including Burghley.

Alex Hua Tian sits first in the CCI4*-S on his own nine-year-old Manjushri with 29.4. He described the horse as green at four-star level yet scopey and said the Bramham cross-country track should suit him when it takes place on Saturday.

Selina Milnes lies second in the long class on Cooley Snapchat with 27.9. Gemma Stevens holds second in the short on Chilli Morning IV while Kitty King is third with Cristal Fontaine on 31.6.
